What requirements does an ergonomic office chair have to meet? On the one hand, ergonomic office chairs prevent back pain. On the other hand, an ergonomic desk chair should alleviate existing back problems. In this category you will find ergonomic office chairs from HARA CHAIR that meet these requirements. Our specialist consultants will be happy to help you find the right ergonomic office chair for you.
An ergonomic office chair is optimally tailored to the user
Ergonomics is becoming more and more important in the working world. Because sitting for hours on the back and increases any existing back problems. But what characterizes an ergonomic chair anyway? Ergonomic office chairs are optimally tailored to the user. And: Ergonomic office chairs relieve and support the body. However, an office swivel chair that moves on castors and offers freedom of movement in all directions does not have to be ergonomic. An office chair only deserves the designation “ergonomic” if it can be adjusted to the individual circumstances of its user. Ergonomic desk chairs sometimes look very different from their predecessors.
An ergonomic office chair adapts
An ergonomic office chair adapts optimally to the needs of its user. In addition to the body measurements, a possible orthopedic complaint is also included – such as a herniated disc or a hollow back. The adjustability of the backrest in height and angle of inclination as well as an adapted headrest and height-adjustable armrests are basic requirements to enable longer sedentary activities. However, there is only a health advantage if every sitting position is supported and the spine is relieved. An ergonomic office chair therefore has several solutions. These relate to the pressure-relieving seat and the ergonomic backrest. Of course, an ergonomic office chair cannot be a substitute for movement and sport. But it can make hours of sitting much more comfortable.
Ergonomics Checklist
The optimal ergonomic office chair has an adjustable backrest, height-adjustable armrests and a height-adjustable seat, which also allows you to sit in motion.
This is how you can optimally adjust your ergonomic office chair in just a few simple steps:
- The soles of your feet touch the floor in a relaxed manner: Adjust the seat height of your office chair so that the soles of your feet are relaxed on the floor. This primarily relieves the lower back. At the same time, the upper and lower arms should form a right angle with the countertop. If the desk is not height-adjustable and your feet are hanging too much in the air, it’s best to do like the secretaries do: put a footstool under the desk.
- Sufficient distance between the hollow of the knee and the front edge of the chair: One hand should still fit between the hollow of the knee and the front edge of the chair. If the seat is constantly squeezing the hollow of the knee, this can lead to circulatory problems in the legs.
- Adjusting the height of the backrest: Backrests usually have a pad in the lower area that supports the lumbar area. This curvature, also known as the lordosis support, should be level with the waistline. In the pelvic area you should be in contact with the backrest. If this causes the hollows of your knees to touch the front edge of the chair, then the seat is too short. With some ergonomic office chairs, however, the seat depth can be adjusted.
- Upper and lower arms form a right angle: f you are sitting straight in front of your desk with your shoulders relaxed and the soles of your feet lightly touching the floor, then your upper and lower arms should form a roughly 90-degree angle to one another. If this is not possible, then your desk may be too high. If your desk is height adjustable, then adjust the height of the table top. If not, put a footstool under the desk.
Attention, your ergonomic office chair should definitely have these additional functions:
- A lordosis support in the backrest supports the lower back region: Doctors call the natural curvature of the spine in the lower back area lordosis. If this curvature is more pronounced, experts speak of a hollow back. An ergonomic backrest should take the lordosis into account and offer support for the lower back region.
- The seat enables dynamic sitting: Back pain due to lack of exercise is often the result of static, rigid sitting. But with the divided seat, the office chairs from HARA CHAIR promote ergonomically optimal sitting and allow more movement when sitting than any other chair. The flexible, moveable seat modules allow many different seating positions.
Why HARA CHAIR office chairs are ergonomic
The seat modules from HARA CHAIR meet all the requirements placed on an ergonomic office chair. The split seat adapts dynamically to the natural movements of the coccyx and pelvis in all directions. The spine is relieved, the intervertebral discs are spared and the blood circulation in the buttocks and pelvis is promoted. And there’s more: the split seat surface activates the muscles and relaxes the connective tissue. The dynamic, pressure-relieving sitting even prevents sagging thighs and buttocks.
Patented split seat and backrest
Specially designed for long periods of sitting in the office, the patented, split seat is integrated in all HARA CHAIR models. Only the ergonomic back support differs. The NIE model is so far the only model that offers a split backrest in addition to the split seat. The two flexible backrests follow the movements of the ribs and adapt to the natural S-shape of the spine.
The ergonomic back supports of the CAE, ZEN-LS and ZEN models, on the other hand, have special padding in the S-line of the spine to effectively support the back. Also known as lordosis support, the ergonomic upholstery relieves the lumbar vertebrae. The vertebral bodies are relieved of the pressure with which the upper body presses on the lower spine, the coccyx and the sit bones of the pelvis when sitting.
More movement while sitting
The conscious decision in favor of an ergonomically designed workplace pays off. The dynamic models from HARA CHAIR are specially designed for more movement in the office. They help to reduce lost work and missed days due to back and disc problems. Because on an ergonomic office chair from HARA CHAIR, you can still work comfortably and without tiring while sitting for hours.
Which model is “the” ergonomic office chair depends on your personal requirements. Body weight plays a role here, as does the individual symptoms. If you have already had a herniated disc in the lumbar spine, you could benefit from a lumbar support. You can try out at home with a rolled-up towel whether you find the S padding in the lower back comfortable.
